  • The 2nd Edition of How to Measure Anything shoots to #1 in Statistics and Math for Business. The second edition has been out since April but is still doing very well in its categories. This is partly because of positive buzz and partly because John Wily & Sons is a publisher that promotes its authors well. Watch the John Wiley video below.
  • The Fall 2010 webinar schedule is posted! Check out the HDR webinars page to attend webinars and learn about Applied Information Economics, how to know which decision analysis methods work, and how to be a "calibrated" estimator.
  • NEW WEBINAR "Pulse: How the Internet is Becoming the Ultimate Buzz-Meter" - Learn about new research and tools for forecasting economic and social trends based on buzz from Twitter, Google Trends and more. Flu outbreaks, unemployment, and even the box office receipts of new movies have been foreseen by analyzing comments posted, terms searched and items purchased by millions of internet users every day. There is no "business intelligence" without knowing the internet Pulse.

Does Your Risk Analysis Really Work? The most popular risk analysis methods used in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) are usually the least scientific. Doug Hubbard shows in his articles and books that methods that rely on "Risk Maps" or "Risk Scores" instead of quantitative analysis are merely placebos for management.

His book The Failure of Risk Management describes how ineffective risk analysis methods permeate risk management. His article in Analytics explains the difference between a placebo and an analysis method that works. The OR/MS Today explains common mistakes even in quantitative risk analysis.

Have some thoughts on this topic? Join the community! Visit the Hubbard Blog and put questions directly to Doug Hubbard about quantitative risk management, measuring the immeasurable, and how to tell what methods really work. Download examples and spreadsheets referred to in his books. Registration is free.

Or sign up for an HDR webinar to learn about Applied Information Economics for measuring intangibles, risk, and value.
