In addition to his books, Mr. Hubbard has been published in several periodicals including Nature, The IBM Journal of Research and Development, OR/MS Today, Analytics, CIO, Information Week, and Architecture Boston.

Mr. Hubbard’s career has focused on the application of AIE to solve current business issues facing today’s corporations. Mr. Hubbard has completed over 200 risk/return analyses of large, critical projects, investments and other management decisions in the last 25+ years. AIE is the practical application of several fields of quantitative analysis including Bayesian analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, and many others. Mr. Hubbard’s consulting experience totals over 30 years and spans many industries including insurance, financial services, pharmaceutical, healthcare, utilities, energy, federal and state government, entertainment media, military logistics, and manufacturing. His AIE methodology, has received critical praise from The Gartner Group, The Giga Information Group, and Forrester Research. He is a popular speaker at valuation, risk, metrics and decision analysis conferences all over the world.

Janet Hubbard

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Janet serves as CFO for HDR. Starting at its inception in 1999 she handled a variety of responsibilities incumbent on any small start-up – bookkeeping, contracts, travel booking, scheduling, etc. Janet served as COO starting in 2009. She enjoys communicating regularly with clients both new contacts and longtime consulting and training customers. “Mrs. Measurement” was the way one client put it!

Along with the rewarding work of supporting Doug in his writing and consulting activities, Janet has been a math educator for 35 years. 25+ of those years have been as Adjunct Math Instructor at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. She is fortunate to be able to share lessons learned in running a business with those in her Business Math courses. Janet earned a Bachelor of Science in Math from Millikin University and a Master of Science in Teaching Math from The University of Illinois at Chicago. She holds an IL teaching certificate for math grades 6-12.

Janet’s hobbies include cycling, walking, traveling, reading, and volunteering. Doug and Janet especially enjoy attending their daughter’s music performances.

Andrew Adams

Director of Consulting Operations (DCO)

Andrew is an experienced data scientist specializing in applying information science and applied statistics to real world problems. Andrew has worked with HDR for several years and has become adept at applying the Applied Information Economics method to problems in many different industries including insurance, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, cybersecurity, and consulting services.

While working with HDR, Andrew has built dozens of customized Monte Carlo models that leverage internal data sources, industry research, calibrated estimates, and Bayesian statistical methods. These models leverage information from and run on a variety of different customer information systems while providing actionable results to companies of all sizes. Andrew’s experience in tutoring and teaching mathematics during university also provides a solid framework for teaching clients to use and modify their models as if they had built them themselves, as well as develop a complete understanding of the methods that went into them.

Prior to working with HDR, Andrew has previously worked with IBM and the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS on using machine learning and personalized medicine approaches for reducing the disease burden of HIV-1 infected patients. Andrew also developed a great deal of experience working with high performance computing resources and Monte Carlo simulations with the machinery and members of the Western Canadian Research Grid. Through this work Andrew has developed a passion for analyzing and applying statistical techniques to accurately model large data sets.

Andrew started his academic career at McGill University completing his Bachelor of Commerce before moving to pursue an education in higher level mathematics. While completing his MSc. in Applied Mathematics Andrew developed an interest in combining rigorous probability and dynamical systems to model real world problems in the biomedical and health care fields. Along with the Complex Systems Modeling Group at Simon Fraser University Andrew was able to apply these skills to modeling workplace efficiency in the BC criminal justice system as well as model the spread and possible interventions that could be done on Vancouver’s HIV epidemic. He enjoys working and learning from people in all academic fields as well as teaching and helping people to understand how mathematics and statistics can improve and inform many workplace decisions.

Peter Mallik

Director of Cognitive Research

Prior to becoming the Director of Cognitive Research at HDR, Peter worked as a Senior Quantitative Analyst at HDR consulting with various high-level clients across different industries to solve complex valuation and measurement problems. Peter received his PhD from The University of Akron in 2019 where he studied Psychology with an Emphasis on Adult Development and Aging (specifically Cognitive Aging). Peter specialized in the assessment and measurement of noise (as well as other cognitive phenomena that contribute to decision making) using a variety of behavioral and electrophysiological techniques (such as Event-Related Potentials). Peter is an active member of various psychological organizations such as The Psychonomic Society and The Psychological Science Accelerator. Peter’s academic work can be found in various top-tier journals including Experimental Aging Research, The Journal of Cognitive Psychology, Nature: Human Behavior, and The Journal of Cognitive Enhancement and others.

Robert Weant

Sr. Quantitative Analyst

Robert Weant is a quantitative analyst at Hubbard Decision Research (HDR) who has successfully led several large projects and acted as project support for many others. These risk-focused projects have been conducted for a variety of industries including utilities, healthcare, and manufacturing. Robert has also been instrumental in developing algorithms that have enhanced the methods used by AIE and increased the effectiveness of the Monte Carlo simulations we build for our clients.

Prior to joining HDR, Robert graduated with an M.S. in Economics from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and an M.S.B.A in Applied Finance from Copenhagen Business School located in Denmark. While pursuing higher education he worked in Business Intelligence and focused his academic efforts on quantitatively testing financial portfolios to optimize risk-adjusted returns. In addition to this, he also led a team of economics students to successfully compete in a monetary policy competition hosted by the Federal Reserve to become one of the top five finalists in the country. Through both his work in academia and his career he has evolved a strong passion for handling data sets and how applying statistical methods to them can greatly enhance one’s comprehension of the world we live in.

Robert’s technical skills in Excel, Power BI, and Python have led him to skillfully streamline model deployment for our clients and automate workload. Having gained significant international experience from living in three countries (USA, Denmark, and China), he has developed the ability to effectively communicate with people regardless of their background and help them understand how quantitative methods can improve their decision-making.
